Acceptance of visa applications depends on applicants meeting the criteria at the correct time.

All visa subclasses must fulfill specific health, character, and public interest criteria.

Permanent residents must reside in Australia for at least two of every five years or demonstrate strong ties to the country. Application Time Frames vary widely depending on the type of visa, with skilled visas receiving priority processing over family visas.

Process and Time Frame of the Australia Golden Visa

Laws, regulations, policies, and other legislative instruments establish the framework and foundation of the Australian visa application process. The Home Affairs Department also has the authority to reject visas, conduct registration or monitoring checks, oversee the professional migration agent sector, and facilitate legal review of visa decisions and the laws governing visa applications.

An immigration assistant at the nearest Australian embassy must review specific visa applications for those outside Australia.

An Australian migration bureau will evaluate additional visa requests. The Department of Home Affairs is transitioning to electronic online submission for all temporary and permanent resident visa applications.

Processing durations vary significantly depending on the type of visa sought but typically span 12 months.

The Home Affairs Department employs a preferential processing category, expediting skilled visa applications over those offering less financial assistance (family visas).

The Ministry of Internal Affairs frequently updates its service criteria for Time Frames and publishes them online.

Australian visas are no longer physically stamped on passports but are electronically attached. Australia maintains a website where individuals and businesses can verify the status of visa holders (and any applicable work conditions).
