The Italy Golden Visa Programs

To attain residency status in Italy, candidates can choose to invest in either of these two program alternatives:

Investor Visa Program

Candidates must meet one of the following three requirements:

• Investing a minimum of EUR 2 million in Italian government bonds
• Investing a minimum of EUR 500,000 in Italian equities (reduced to EUR 250,000 if investing in groundbreaking start-ups).
• Contributing a minimum of EUR 1 million to Italian public interest initiatives, such as investing in culture, education, environment, immigration management, research and development, the arts, and heritage. This donation is irreversible.

The investment must be maintained throughout the validity of the visa. The primary candidate’s partner, children, and dependent parents can apply for a visa without requiring additional investment.

Elective Residence Program

Another qualifying option, the Elective Residence Program, is suitable for individuals who can demonstrate their stable annual income at a certain level from abroad. The Italian Elective Residence Visa targets foreigners – retirees, individuals with substantial self-sustaining incomes and financial assets like HNWIs – who have selected Italy as their permanent residence [or long-term relocation, we add] and who can independently support themselves without relying on employment while in Italy, whether as dependent employees, self-employed individuals, or remote online workers. Financing one’s residence in Italy through work is not permitted.

Procedures and Time Frame

The visa is valid for two years and can be extended for another three years, contingent on maintaining the investment. Time Frame for the visa application is estimated at 90–120 days. Investors must make the investment within three months of entering the country to qualify for the Investor Visa Program. Applicants under the Elective Residence Program must prove a stable income and possess residential real estate after approval. Investors relocating to Italy can attain permanent residence after five years. No minimum number of days of physical presence in Italy is mandated.
